Safety in surfing

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: KAYAKING

What time do the Weekend Kayak Tours depart from Dublin?
Weekend Kayak tours depart at 7pm on Friday evening, returning to Dublin on Sunday at approximately 7pm.

Where do we meet for our tours?
All participants are asked to meet us outside the Savoy cinema on O’Connell St. 30mins prior to departure. You will be returned to the same point upon your return to Dublin.

Do you operate kayak tours all year round?
Yes! As the kayak trips take place on a lake conditions are relatively consistent. However, we are at the mercy of nature and trips may be postponed if deemed too dangerous. The kayak centre has excellent equipment which makes kayaking possible all year.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No! Wetsuits provide buoyancy, as do the kayaks. You will be well supervised and guided by your instructor at all times.

Is all the necessary equipment included in the cost of the surf lesson?
Yes! The kayak centre provides everyone with high quality, warm, flexible surfing wetsuits. Everyone is also supplied with beginner lake kayaks.

Where can you change in and out of the wetsuit?
The kayak centre provide male & female changing facilities, with indoor and outdoor showers as well as a toilet.

How do we get to the lake from our accomodation?
You will be transported with the rest of the lesson in a mini bus to the lake. Don't worry your kayak will be riding with you in a trailer behind the bus.

What lakes are your kayaking trips held on?
Kayaking trips generally take place on lough Melvin, near Bundoran however sometimes we may visit other local lakes depending on conditions.

What do I need to bring on a kayak trip?
Apart from your overnight bag, the only things you need to bring with you are a towel, swim suit, sun protection and sandals. But most importantly bring your smile sense of adventure!

What Safety Equipment will the kayak uctors have?
All instructors are qualified lifeguards and will have a irst aid kit on them at all times.

Is it possible to rent a board if you have never done a surf lesson?
No, you are only able to rent equipment on the basis that you are competent to judge safe from unsafe conditions on the beach. This takes time and experience to learn.

Do you film/photograph the kayaking for large groups?
Photographs are taken on all trips and displayed on the website for viewing.
